Boy's Bedroom Ideas that You’ll Both Love
Boy's Bedroom Ideas that You’ll Both Love

Designing a boy’s bedroom may seem treacherous. He wants his room to look like a spaceship and you don’t want to have to buy all new furniture and paint the walls again when he no longer wants to be an astronaut and decides he wants to be a paleontologist instead. He doesn’t want his room to look like a grownup’s room (and why should he, he’s not a grownup), but you know that soon he’ll be a teenager and won’t want those dinosaurs stenciled on the walls anymore.
Here are some ideas for boys’ bedrooms that both you and he will jump for.
- Storage for all his toys. Having a toy chest that doubles as a seat is a great way to make dual use of space in this room. It is also a great way to get him to clean up his room. All he has to do is throw all his toys into the chest and close the lid and the room is clean. He’ll also have a place to sit and read on a rainy day!
- Display shelves. Especially if your little man likes to build things out of Legos, is a master of crafting with clay, or has a number of prized stuffed animals or trophies, putting up some display shelves where he can easily put his creations is a great way to give him a little autonomy in decorating. He can display them however he wants and they won’t end up all over the floor.
- Wall art. You want to incorporate your child’s favorite animal, television show, or item into the room décor, but if he’s likely to pick something else as his favorite next year (or next month), it might be an endless cycle of frustration to try to decorate the entire room around that theme. Instead, use wall art to highlight his obsession with space or sharks or elephants. It will be easy to switch this out when he moves on to something else.
- Colors. While blue is a great color for a boy’s room, neutral colors for the walls and flooring, accented with blues, greens, yellows, and reds in the bedding, wall art, and furniture is the best way to incorporate some color, without having to repaint the walls when he decides his favorite color is fire engine red, not Kelly green.
