Your bedroom is where you probably spend most of your time. Besides the hours you (hopefully) get to spend sleeping, most people spend hours reading, working, or relaxing in their bedrooms every day. This means you want a room that reflects your unique personality and taste. A bland bedroom is uninspiring, while a decorated, personalized room can make you feel right at home. Here are some tips for creating unique bedroom designs—keep in mind that these room decoration ideas are just a guidebook; infuse them with your personal style!
- Bring the outside in. Whether or not you fancy yourself a flower child, bringing a little bit of the outdoors inside is a great way to give your room a special, rustic flair. Natural wood grains and colors are calming, but you could even go so far as to create a bed frame or desk out of natural, unstripped branches. Birch and aspen trees, with their smooth white bark and dark accents are a great addition to any room, without making it feel too “woodsy.” Of course, flowers, neutral colors, and wide, open windows that give you a peek at the outdoors can just as effectively bring the outside in.
- Inspiring wall art. If you don’t have any art on your walls, your room might not feel completely finished. A few pieces of art, either handmade or purchased, can pull a room together, especially if they bring in colors and reflect the style of the furniture. Look for paintings, prints, clocks, and even wall hangings like tapestries that will round out your space.
- Go old school. There’s something grand about sleeping in a four-poster bed. There’s something even grander about sleeping in a canopy bed. While a four-poster or canopy bed might feel a little old school, there are easy ways to update both ideas. Instead of a heavy wood frame, find a streamlined metal frame. Instead of heavy velvet drapes, why not airy, white linens?
- Tone it down. If you’re the kind of person that is easily distracted if there are too many decorations or even pieces of furniture in a room, consider cutting back to just the essentials. A bed and a reading chair or a bed and a desk could be more than enough if you are trying to clear out your space, and therefore, your mind.
