How to Redecorate a Room Without Spending a Dime?
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the potential cost of upgrading that one room in your house that just needs a facelift?
You want to switch things up, maximize your available space, and make your surroundings comfortable, cozy and inviting.
Buying that new furniture you like, picking out the perfect fabrics and accessories can be an overwhelming and expensive task. Not to mention the cost of the professional work of a tailor if you decide to reupholster that old sofa or loveseat you have to bring it back to life.
So what do you do? You go out, find a few new decorative pillows, a new slip cover for that old couch, and accessories to give the room that perfect touch. With just a few hundred bucks you can change everything that you don’t like in a room, right?? Wrong!!
Unfortunately, the result turned out to be blend of decorating elements that are disconnected. They make the room look busy and disrupt its natural order. Then you become frustrated by the thought of being stuck with a style of décor that just makes no sense.
There is a way you can avoid all this aggravation…..you can actually decorate a room, or even your whole house, using things that you already own. If you put your creative mind to use, you can devise a way to use your own furniture pieces and accessories in different combinations to achieve the look that you want.
The first step to tackling this free upgrade is to get some creative ideas. Categorize your belongings in similar groupings. Put your accessories together, consolidate furniture, and look at what you have. Look at things with a “new” eye. See what you can put together that you never thought would go together before. This is the time to get rid of those things you are tired of or no longer want to use.
Don’t donate the items you have decided to discard quite yet. You may rediscover some of these old possessions as new treasures before you are done.
The second step is to think about the room you are wanting to facelift. Did you follow symmetry, or was the style more casual and laid back? How has your style changed since you last updated? How can you mix your old style with your new style? Consider your old style and work from there. Was your living room formal, traditional, or modern? If your home décor was formal or conservative, you can try out a casual style, for a change, by re-arranging pieces in a less symmetrical order. Add pieces of furniture that you might have in a hallway or family room for a comforting feel, and combine pillows from different areas of the house.
Rearranging your home for nothing can be easy. If you find that your new setup just needs a small detail here or a piece of artwork there, just find a bargain at a local thrift store and enjoy your new room!
